Meredith Mochel is a Chattanooga-based trial attorney with over two decades of experience representing clients in complex criminal defense and family law cases across Tennessee and North Georgia. She is known for her thorough case preparation, courtroom presence, and steady guidance in high-stakes legal matters.

A Chattanooga native, Meredith graduated from Girls Preparatory School before earning her Bachelor of Arts in English with honors from the University of the South in Sewanee. She received her Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2003.

Following law school, Meredith worked for several small firms in Chattanooga, developing her practice in civil litigation and criminal defense. In 2015, she opened The Law Offices of Meredith Mochel, a practice committed to defending individuals facing serious legal challenges. The firm remains the only all-female law office practicing in both Tennessee and Georgia.

Meredith has represented clients in jury trials involving serious violent felonies, DUI, and a broad range of criminal offenses throughout Hamilton County, North Georgia, and surrounding areas. She has successfully resolved DUI cases involving death or serious injury, secured favorable outcomes for clients whose careers or immigration status were at risk, and guided families through complex divorces in both Hamilton and Marion Counties.

In 2016, Meredith purchased one of Chattanooga’s oldest buildings and converted it into law office space—not only for her own practice, but also for women attorneys starting solo practices after leaving state jobs or firms. She continues to mentor aspiring attorneys, providing internships to students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Two former interns are currently on track to become associates at the firm following law school.

Personal Note from Meredith

Outside work, I share my home in Red Bank, TN, with six large, lovable dogs—mostly Labradors and Golden Retrievers. Most evenings, you’ll find me walking through the neighborhood with one or two of them, waving to neighbors while singing (badly, but with heart) along to whatever playlist I’ve got going. It’s my favorite way to unwind—and theirs too.

Caring for animals has always been a part of who I am. I encourage my team to bring their dogs to the office. I regularly support local rescue efforts with time and resources, especially when an animal is in crisis and needs a safe place or emergency care.

Though I’m mostly a homebody when I’m off the clock, I make time throughout the year for quick getaways with close friends, including my work family. Those trips are a chance to reset, reconnect, and share a little joy outside the office.
